Day 2

Day 2:

Day 1 being only a half day here in sunny breezy Mexico FLEW by! So we decided to make day 2 more relaxing. It was nice to wake up without the sounds of children causing a ruckus in our room or without that familiar beeping sound from the alarm clock that we all know too well. After waking up we threw on some comfy clothes and headed down to our travel specialist to talk about some of the excursions could take through their company. After going over some of the options we decided to take a day trip to Cozumel on Friday to explore the island. It sounded really exciting so I will let you all know how it went on day 3!

After booking our excursion with Alonso, our awesome concierge from Playa Del Carmen, we went downstairs to have breakfast at the world café which is actually the Italian restaurant that we ate at the previous evening and the Mediterranean grill combined (so that they could fit more people in). It was a buffet, but it was delicious! It had everything from our American favorites like eggs, bacon, pancakes and cereal to crepes, chorizo, tamales, tacos, and much more! I have to tell you I never tire of people unfolding my napkin or after I say thank you or gracias for something having them tell me “it’s my pleasure”.

When we were finished with Breakfast we decided to take a walk around the property were we met several iguanas! I decided to name all of them "Isa" (if you have small children you will understand). Then we headed over to the spa to see about a massage. Trish went with the Swedish and I did a focused shoulders neck and back. After choosing our massages we went back up to our room to change into our swimsuits before heading down to the spa for our treatments. The spa experience was AMAZING! We came in and were given private lockers in our respective changing rooms, which were loaded with everything we might need like razors, shaving cream, toothpaste and toothbrushes, combs, and soaps lotions and anything else you could think of. After changing into our robes we were shown to a new room where we took a quick shower and then into a steam room (awesome!). When we got out of the steam room we were taken to a cold (and when I say cold I mean I may or may not have seen a polar bear at the other end of the bath!) bath before heading to the sauna, the cold bath again, and finally the hot tub. Thought it was a little weird to keep going from hot to cold to hot but it was pretty relaxing. The hot tub was super hot so I was ready to get out after a few minutes but I think that Trish could have stayed in it all day J. We then were taken to individual waterbeds where we were given an amazing foot and leg massage (and all of this was done BEFORE our massages even started!!!!). The massages were awesome!!! I have never felt so much pain and pleasure at the same time ha-ha. They even put us in a room with two massage beds so we pretty much got a couples massage for no extra cost…Bonus!

When the massages were finished we headed out to their relaxation area which had a private pool with Jacuzzi jets and beds in the water. We took a dip in the pool and then laid out in a private cabana for a while before heading to a restaurant for lunch. Lunch was great! We went back to the world café since it would be quick and easy we had some beef tenderloin with mint (I know it sounds weird but it was good!) and some delicious made to order tacos.

After lunch we went down to the beach for a little walk/swim/sunbathing. The sun is hot down here but the breeze coming in off the water was absolutely fantastic. We floated around in the pool for a while soaking up some rays and then back to the room for NAP TIME! There is nothing better than being able to take a nap in the middle of the afternoon! Trish took herself a little cat nap while I started working on our vacation blog.

By the way… A good friend of mine told us to be careful and not to drink all of the beer the first day that it would be there tomorrow… She was RIGHT! There are bars ready to serve you any beverage you want any time of day. I have always been a fan of Mexican beers so I have been sticking to my favorites like Pacifico, Modello, Corona, and the occasional margarita while Trish has been drinking the classic fruity drinks like Strawberry daiquiri, Miami Vice, and the Bay Breeze.

For dinner tonight we decided to try one of the outside restaurants called the Oceanside Grill. It was nice to be eating dinner in the middle of a pool looking at the ocean! Dinner service at the restaurants does not start until 6:00 so we usually go around 6:30 and it is surprisingly quiet. I guess most of the other guests in the hotel don’t venture out for dinner until much later because I think I only saw a dozen or so tables filled by the time we left. We both ordered the sirloin steak dinner with baked potato and vegetable skewers. The grilled zucchini was amazing! The restaurant manager even brought us over some after dinner baileys and blue Curacao shots (I know it sounds disgusting but it tasted just like a milkshake!!). I know it doesn’t sound like we are doing much but I assure you that relaxing can make you very tired ha-ha. When we were done with dinner we decided to pass on the nightly entertainment and maybe just grab a movie from the concierge desk and order some desert via room service. However, on the way back to the room we decided to stop for a drink that for myself, ended with half a bottle of Disarono, and a few tasty frozen beverages for Trish. Once we had our fill of human interaction and libations we headed up to the room for our desert… flan for me and chocolate cake for Trish while we watched our movie and dozed off to sleep. Cozumel tomorrow!!! Adios!
