Day 1

Well our first day here at Secrets resort in Riviera Maya called Silversands was kind of a blur. We started off with two fairly quick flights stopping first in Atlanta and then on to the Cancun airport. Actually getting though customs and such was a much faster and painless experience that I would have thought it would be. By 12:30 we had arrived at our resort and were greeted by everyone rushing to us and saying welcome home (I wish it was home!). Check-in wasn’t until 3:00 but we got lucky and our room had already been cleaned and was waiting for us. The room is absolutely beautiful complete with marble floors, a king sized bed (with cool blue lights that illuminate it J), sitting area with a table for two plus a couch and coffee table, flat screen TV with DVD player, a Jacuzzi, double vanity, and a walk-in shower that is the size of a small bathroom! Also, attached to the room is our second floor balcony with a chaise lounge for 2 a table and couch plus a fantastic view of the ocean.

After the bellman showed us to our room with our luggage and gave us a few tips we decided to unpack a few things and walk the property to see where everything was. We walked up and down the beach to check out the ocean (which had to be over 80 degrees) and found that in the water it was a little rocky but the sand was nice so we decided that if we wanted to swim we could do it in one of the resorts 8 pools. The property is HUGE! It has tons of amenities like a theater for nightly entertainment, outdoor “game room” with ping-pong and pool tables, full service spa, 7 restaurants and at least 6 bars, gym, tennis courts, and much more. After checking out the beach and the property we went back to the room to try and relax a bit after having such a busy morning. After a short nap we went to the concierge to get some information about some excursions that were offered, and then off to dinner. Trish picked dinner for our first night and we went to the resorts Italian restaurant called Portofino. It was probably one of the top 5 meals that I have ever had in my life!

The restaurant was immaculate and our server was beyond attentive. If there was something that we needed he had it to us before we had to ask! For dinner I had a cup of their minestrone soup for an appetizer, a delicious tomato and spinach base sauce over some vegetable pasta for my second course, and a breaded chicken breast stuffed with provolone cheese and Portobello mushrooms with a truffle sauce and beautiful blanched vegetables. When we were finished with dinner we decided to explore some more. Everything is pretty laid back during the day but as Kenny Chesney would say “everything is hotter when the sun goes down”! The night life is fun yet still relaxing. We stopped by a few different bars for some cocktails, I checked out the resorts selection of premium Cuban cigars (Borat would say they were “nice!”), and then we headed into the theater for a comedian/ventriloquist. He was no Terry Fader, but still entertaining. Following the show we went back to our rooms to rest up for the next day. We had been up since 3:00 that morning and flown a total of 1300ish miles to get to this tropical paradise and had little to no energy left. After ordering some tasty room service for a snack and watching a little TV it was definitely time for some sleep!
